Historical Fiction – Maynah Lewis 2023

The 2023 club competition named after our founder, Maynah Lewis, was based around historical fiction. Those who took part, were tasked with creating a story based in a decade provided by one of the other members.

This is because this year’s judge, John Donaghue, is a historical fiction novelist.

‘Magic Dan’ on free download 18th – 22nd December

My novel about musical life on the road in the 1980s is on free download for a week at Amazon, if you fancy it for a Christmas read. It follows the fortunes of keyboard player Jonnie Cole as his band tour Europe over Christmas 1985.

A tale of sex, drugs and synthesisers, it is not for the prudish!!

National Novel Writing Month

You may not have heard of NaNoWriMo – It’s a website that attempts to help writers get their novel done and in the bag. It’s quite good as it provides the motivation to keep the word count rising towards your completed targets.

81 Renshaw Street Plays

This is a little reminder that I’ve got two nights of plays on at 81 Renshaw Street in Liverpool next week. Here’s the programme. It starts at 7:30 for both evenings. £6 for one night or £9 for both.

Planning Ahead

I signed up for the Early Bird Option for the London Screenwriters Festival. This year it starts 2nd September 2016. Right at the start of the school year. If my sabbatical dream comes true then this is the perfect kick start.

I Finally Made It!

Through the cyber jungle I struggle and fall.

Each time I click I meet a brick wall.

Exhausted with frustration once again I begin.

Shall I persevere or just give in?

At last I find my writer’s home,

And a space to call my own.

Look out for Juniper now and again.

Will he make you laugh or cry or just be a pain?

Though there’s many a slip ‘twixt lip and cup;

He hopes to continue and not give up.

Musings on the role of editors

Friday 17th August meeting was one of our most lively meetings for a while. And it arose when we were discussing some of the comments made by our guest speaker Juliet Greenwood at the Sunday Lunch a couple of weeks ago.
